Intercourse

Sexual activity is generally safe in pregnancy as long as the woman is comfortable and there are no complications in pregnancy, for example placenta previa where the placenta lies over the cervical os (opening). Activity should be stopped and you should talk to a healthcare practitioner if there is pain or bleeding. Excessive nipple stimulation can cause uterine contractions; however, sexual intercourse is not a risk factor for preterm birth or any problems in pregnancy.
